You love English and love children, you are wondering how to become an English teacher for children. Sure you noticed that teaching English to children is becoming more and more… relevant.

Parents keep asking you to teach their kids, don’t they? Schools are terrible at it and parents everywhere are really looking for tools, or teachers, or both.

Great then, let’s teach English to children!

But HOW?

That is the question and actually, we do have some ideas on how to go about it…

Dont’ teach English, Play English!

At Learn with Mummy we teach children through Playgroup.
0 to 6 years old attend the Playgroup with their parents. Primary school children attend without parents.
Teachers manage their Playgroups in full independence, but receive all the support they can possibly need plus continuous learning and development opportunities.
All Playgroups run through the school year and meet once a week, creating a very stable learning enviroment and a very pleasant teaching experience.

Can children and parents learn English together?

At Learn with Mummy we teach children with and through their parents, even if the parents don’t speak English themselves! Yes, it does sound like magic but really it is just about having the right approach and methodology.

That’s why Learn with Mummy are English Playgroup for children and parents, much more than just English classes for children! They really are the beginning of a journey and of a new approach to languages that involves the whole family, offering children frequent exposure to English in a simple and playful way, that suits each family’s needs and resources.

And of course parents learn a lot too. Even parents who are fluent in English have plenty of room for learning, because business English doesn’t come very handy when you’re debating with a three year old…

Learn with Mummy playgroups are new and unique (in Italy but not only) so it’s not surprising that requests are constantly coming in, and quite frankly some parents are really vocal about it…

What are these Learn with Mummy groups?

Each group normally meets once a week, during the whole school year. During each session the teacher will coordinate activities and everybody will join him or her, children and parents alike.

The teacher will have a methodology, a very clear idea of which activities she will offer and why and a lesson plan. Yet children will experience a playful atmosphere and will be encouraged to bring their own preferences and ideas into the playgroup.

A teacher can offer afternoon playgroups, as well as activities to do in schools or in summer camps. It’s not necessary to have a location dedicated to the activities, the location/s can be rented on an hourly basis, minimizing costs.

Could I do it?

Here is the idea… Start your own Learn with Mummy Playgroups! Start them, manage them, run them. Create your dream job out of your passion, a job that would allow you total flexibility as to how much, when, where and with whom you work.

Yeah probably the idea of starting and managing something is quite scary, but it can be done, several teachers have done it already! Some have been in the job more than 5 years, 10 years even!
You can leverage all the experience, network and contacts that Learn with Mummy has built over the years.

How does this franchising work?

Learn with Mummy would provide franchisees the training, materials and support for running and promoting their activities, as well as visibility through the blog and all the contacts created in these last years and, last but not least, an exclusivity area.

The exclusivity area bit is really important. It means you can grow your activity and don’t need to worry about sharing…

The franchisee agrees instead to pay an entry fee and an annual fee to Learn with Mummy, as well as to conduct activities in line with the guidelines and quality standards set by Learn with Mummy. The fees will be easily covered by running one playgroup, the rest is for the teacher to keep!

No other major upfront costs are necessary, no need to have a physical location dedicated to these activities for instance.

Oh, and by the way, with this job you don’t have to work in summer unless you choose to…

Once you follow our training and advise, and with the support you’ll receive, you can find enough families to work with during the school year that you won’t need to work during the summer. You’ll be able to enjoy a long break with your kids, your family and/or your friends. (Or travelling solo, if this is your dream!)

Who are you, anyway?

Learn with Mummy is a spin off of Bilingue per Gioco, the website about bilingualism and language early learning, a reference point for parents passionate about languages.

Bilingue per Gioco makes about 60.000 views a month. More than 6,000 people have registered for the newsletter of Bilingue per Gioco while more than 7000 are subscribed to various newsletters that relate specifically to Learn with Mummy in various Italian cities, Bilingue per Gioco also has more than 1200 Friends and more than 3400 fans on facebook (increasing day by day), in short, it is an important window for activities related to languages and children.

Both Bilingue per Gioco and Learn with Mummy have been founded by the same person, Letizia Quaranta. A mum with a passion for languages, a vision of a better world, bottomless desire to learn and a handful of really pragmatic skills.

Ok, what do I need then?

You need skills, passion, willingness to learn. And you need to be native speaker or near native, in short, your English must be of very very high level. Not just anybody can be a Learn with Mummy teacher…

I will invite those who are seriously interested to a 1 on 1 call on skype, to discuss the individual details, answer your questions, see whether they are suitable for this project, then we’ll take it from there.

These are the skills required:

• Ability to work with children and their parents
• Communicative personality and a true desire to play and sing
• Organizational skills
• A bit of entrepreneurial spirit, the desire to own and manage your time and your future
• Native or native-like command of English (yes in the future we can also start with other languages, but for now it’s English)
