The Learn with Mummy Lesson Plans have been tested and refined for over a decade, incorporating direct feedback, ideas, tricks and tips shared by our teachers. Created by teachers for teachers, they reflect our collective expertise, adapt easily to different styles and have been proven resilient in the most demanding situations (from COVID to children climbing on the walls).
Here’s what makes The Learn with Mummy Lesson Plans so effective:
- Engagement Through Play
By blending language into games and highly interactive activities, each lesson plan captures children’s natural curiosity and energy, reducing performance anxiety and promoting total immersion and spontaneous language use. - Scaffolding
Each child is met exactly where s/he is. Nothing is assumed, required or expected. Children are supported in exploring the language at their pace and using their knowledge and their interests to acquire further knowledge and fluency. - Reinforcement at Multiple Levels
Repetition is built in the process but offered with so much variety that children (and parents) hardly notice. The diversity of input modes (stories, movements, games, songs, audiobooks, gestures, books), strategically crafted and aligned, ensure English is delivered with effective repetition that cements understanding and promotes active use of the language. - Community Building
A Playgroup is group thing, and everyone is an essential part of the group. Children play with their parents, with other children, with other children’s parents and with the teacher. The Playgroup becomes a learning community, a safe place for play ad collaboration, and children naturally build social skills while learning English. - Clear, Measurable Progress
Each section of the lesson plan maps onto specific learning outcomes, so teacher and parents can see the learning unfold before their eyes, and ears. - Immediate Practical Use
Children and Parents will learn vocabulary, expressions and phrases they can use in their daily life in the most normal and spontaneous situations. This ensures the language they learn isn’t just memorized but truly used—building long-term confidence and accelerated learning. - Physical Play
Playgroups are a dynamic experience, each Lesson Plan is designed to offer both quiet time, for listening and reading, and opportunities for vigorous play. This stuff is great for kids, but keeps teachers young and energetic! - Motor Skills Development
Movement is becoming scarcer and scarcer for kids. They don’t know how to run, jump, skip, hop, throw or catch a ball. We weave these activies in the lesson plans and make sure we give parents tips to support their children motor skills development. In most cases all you need to do is pay attention to it and let children play. - Mix and Stir
Our Lesson Plans work well with children of mixed ages, skills and knowledge. It might seem hard to believe, because we are so used to putting children into little boxes ( 4yo with 4yo, 2nd year students with 2nd year students). We mix them all, and let each of them learn at the maximum of their potential. It is not magic, it is purposeful design. It happens to make learning more effective (Montessori was the first champion of this approach) and the teacher’s planning job easier. - Structured, Yet Flexible
Even though the lesson plan has a clear progression and suggest activities for each single lesson, it’s flexible enough to adapt. Teachers can adjust each Playgroup based on the group’s needs and their own preferences. We give teachers Tools and Trust, then let them Teach.
By weaving these elements together, Learn with Mummy’s Lesson Plans remain fun and flexible, allowing teachers to adapt them to each single group and achieve outstanding joy and learning in all Playgroups.
